I have been a tutor for over 10 years, and have home schooled my own three children for over 8 years. I have a degree in aerospace engineering (summa cum laude), and love to tutor college-level calculus, probability and statistics, physics, chemistry and structures courses. But I am also comfortable teaching high school, middle school and even elementary age children. I think math is fun! And I want all my students to enjoy math and know that they can succeed in math. My parents hired Lisa as a tutor to help me prepare for the SAT. I took the practice SAT and understood the math section pretty well due to what I have been learning from Lisa. " name="SOKARA T. from Albuquerque, NM" description="algebra 1

algebra 1 |
Algebra 1 is the subject that I tutor most often. It is also what I have tutored the longest. My very first Algebra 1 student was 10 years ago. She is now a teacher. |
algebra 2 |
Whenever I did engineering work or courses I used the skills in Algebra 2 often. Logs, polynomials, graphs, imaginary numbers: all these were things I had to be very familiar with. I understand these concepts thoroughly, and I am able to communicate them to you in more than one way. I will keep trying until I find the method that helps you understand. |
calculus |
I first took Calculus in 10th grade. I have been using it ever since, either in my engineering classes, engineering work, or as as tutor. |
chemistry |
As an aerospace engineer I had to know chemistry, specifically as it applies to fluid and thermodynamics. I have only tutored chemistry a few times, but all my students received A's in their classes. I can't guarantee that for you, of course, but with hard work on your part, it is achievable. |

prealgebra |
I have taught Pre-Algebra both as a tutor and as a home schooling parent. The concepts are second nature to me. I am able to approach each topic from more than one angle. I have had to do that in the past because my various students learned differently. I am able to recognize how you best learn a concept and then teach from that perspective. |

SAT math |
I got a perfect score on my SATs when I took them. I know the material thoroughly and can help your student learn it. Also, because a good student is not always a good test-taker, I can teach your student the tips and tricks (s)he will need to get the highest score of which (s)he is capable. |
SAT reading |
I got a perfect score on my SATs when I took them. I know the material thoroughly and can identify areas of weakness and boost your student's understanding in those areas. Also, because a good student is not always a good test-taker, I can teach your student the tips and tricks (s)he will need to get the highest score of which (s)he is capable. |
elementary math |
I have lots of experience teaching elementary math and science because I have home schooled my own three children, as well as tutoring other elementary students. |
elementary science |
I have lots of experience teaching elementary math and science because I have home schooled my own three children, as well as tutoring other elementary students. I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, which requires lots of science courses, so elementary science is very easy for me. |
