I am a recent graduate of Michigan State University with degrees in chemical engineering and Mandarin Chinese. In terms of tutoring experience, I taught English as a second language (ESL) to middle schoolers in Czech Republic for a class-intensive week. While in China during summer of 2009 I taught twenty students ages eight to twenty in an ESL course. Unfortunately I was only able to have 1 tutoring session with Isaac, but I would definitely recommend him based on that session. I could tell right away that he knew what he was doing and he genuinely seemed to want to do the best he could. Definitely worth looking into if you need help in Math. My degree in chemical engineering brought me through differential equations, which is also considered 'Calculus 4'. I have consistently been using high-level math for multiple years and will continue to do so in my engineering career. I have tutored high school students in math for a semester and have also tutored college-level students in chemical engineering courses which require high level math knowledge. |

Math is an important aspect of everyday life. Concepts in Algebra 2 can be applied to optimization problems, savings, and loans (exponential growth). Algebra 2 sets people up for Calculus and other higher-level math. Teaching Algebra 2 is an exciting process, and I enjoy working with students who may not "get it" right away. With patience and hard work, the light-bulb moment will not be far off. |

Prealgebra is a great building block for higher math. Not only does it impart knowledge of fractions, variables, formulas, and exponents necessary for algebra, but it also builds on concepts of length, mass, volume which are necessary in geometry, trigonometry, and multivariable calculus. I am so excited to impart my knowledge of prealgebra to students who are interested! I enjoy that lightbulb moment when students finally "get it". |

How do you land a helicopter? How do elevators know when to slow down and stop? How do we interpret graphs with logarithmic scales? These are all concepts learned in Precalculus and are used in everyday life. I hope to impart the importance of math in students' lives post-test. This way, students retain concepts and can build on them in higher levels of math. Having a student achieve that "a-HA!" moment is one of the best parts of tutoring. |

How does an architect design a house? How tall is that mountain and what height does this plane need to be to pass over it unharmed? How does a CAT scan or MRI relate to sine and cosine functions? These are all applications of Trigonometry used in the real world. In tutoring students, my aim is to impart a significance of math concepts that can be used for the rest of their lives. When a student realizes the importance of math in everyday life, their desire to understand concepts increases dramatically. My hope in teaching Trigonometry is to not only better students' grades, but also better their foundation in concept retention, logic, and problem solving. |
