Learning is something I am passionate about, and it's my desire to help others succeed and enjoy it as much as I do. I've held varied roles in the workplace, from working as an office manager to an editor. Presently, I work as a substitute teacher with children in a K-8 setting. Being a teacher and helping them learn more about the world around them has made me realize this is what I want to do, hence my reason for getting back into tutoring. I have a bachelor's degree in History from Old Dominion University, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I work with students in several different subjects depending on their needs. Among them are Reading, Writing, Literature, Phonics, English Grammar through College English, Essay Editing all the way to the college level, and History, from American to European. I'm skilled in Geography in both college and high school levels, and offer homework support in these subjects. When I'm not busy helping students, I love being active. I enjoy practicing yoga, gardening, and traveling to different places. I also like to relax and read new books, improve my photography, and tinker around in graphic design. Helping others is important outside of the classroom, and I'm involved in community-building also.Education

I'm a teacher based in the state of Utah, where I graduated with a masters in English from Weber State University and a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Utah. I'm currently focusing on teaching English, creative writing, history, and yoga. I work at a local middle school in downtown Salt Lake City, here in Utah. I'm a teacher who isn't content with simply giving students the right answer and moving forward with the lesson. Instead, I think of teaching as an interaction between myself and my students. I think the most powerful form of learning comes when students discover the material for themselves -- a process I encourage through strategically asking my students higher-level questions. I set a high standard for my students to reach, but give them the support that they need to reach those milestones and push themselves to higher heights. I really love the process of teaching, which is why I've taught, mentored, and tutored students for over ten years. I feel privileged to get to work with students and help them grow inside the classroom and out of it. My hope for each student is that I can help them discover their own voice. I would be honored to do the same with you!Education

I am currently studying clinical psychology at the University of California-Berkeley. I also majored in English and math at Williams College. My philosophy as a tutor involves discovering exactly what areas my students are having difficulties in and helping to inspire interest in the subject matter by providing positive encouragement. I believe learning can be a transformative experience for students, which is why it is imperative to help give them the tools necessary to succeed. I have experience tutoring students in a range of different countries, cultures, subjects, and ages. I am most comfortable tutoring students in algebra, pre-algebra, quantitative reasoning, college English, multivariable calculus, English literature and composition, English, trigonometry, calculus, and United States history. I also have experience helping students prepare for standardized tests, including, the SAT, SAT subject tests, GRE, SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT. As a tutor, I place a high emphasis on helping students develop study skills, adaptive and flexible thinking, and helping students develop critical thinking skills. In terms of hobbies, I enjoy holistic living, people, meditation, yoga, spending time outdoors, painting, baking, reading, cooking, hiking, biking, running, and fiction. I also enjoy asking intellectual questions and exploring the answers that go along with them.Education
