LawrenceMy goal as a tutor is to help youth develop academically and personally. I've been successful as a tutor and mentor, and my students have increased performance and gained confidence. I attended Morehouse College to earn my bachelor of science degree in math. I volunteered with AmeriCorps to help middle school and high school level students with math. I also created my own community service projects as a part of Global Youth Service Day. As a tutor, I understand what it's like to have difficulty learning a topic. I initially had trouble learning math myself, but I was able to work through learning obstacles and become successful. In addition to my math degree, I also have a physics minor. When I work with students, I mimic the approach my high school calculus teacher took. He helped us understand calculus by tying it back to concepts that we already understood in previous math topics. I do the same thing with my students to help them bridge their knowledge and apply what they already know to new challenges. I'm looking forward to helping students learn algebra, calculus, differential equations, geometry, multivariable calculus, trigonometry, physics, and beginning math and science topics. When I have free time, I enjoy puzzles, camping, sports, and playing games.

GerardoI attended UCLA for my bachelor's degree in physics. I enjoy teaching students physics and math topics. Teaching energizes me. No matter how I feel before stepping to the classroom, I immediately become enthusiastic and energetic. This is contagious for my students, and I'm able to get students to engage with a topic and have a positive attitude about learning it. My students enjoy my classes and learn a lot. I am looking forward to tutoring students in algebra, calculus, geometry, pre-calculus, statistics, trigonometry, physics, and test preparation for the SAT and other exams. In my free time, I enjoy chess, soccer, hiking, and fishing.

BrandyWhen I work with a student, I relate topics to things they already understand. This help students visualize the concept, making it easier to understand and increasing retention. I was able to get experience in teaching leading a biology lab for non-science majors. I enjoyed it, and this let me know that I was skilled at sharing information with others and helping them learn. I want people to enjoy the learning process, and I love teaching science in particular. Science allows for a lot of experimentation and hands-on activities that encourage discussion and stimulates motivation. I've also done in-home therapy work for children with disabilities. I believe education is important because it lays the groundwork for future opportunities. It helps students discover within themselves new interests and motivations. I'm looking forward to helping students develop new passions and reach goals they never thought were attainable. I can tutor students in algebra one and two, geometry, elementary and middle school math topics, pre-calculus, trigonometry, biology, and chemistry. In my free time I enjoy activities like bowling, dancing, and singing.
