JayI have 20 years of experience working with K-12 students in writing, reading, math, and Mandarin Chinese. I believe in my students and their abilities. I focus on helping students become self-sufficient learners with confidence and learning skills they can use throughout school and in their life. When I start working with a student I review their work and observe how they think. I use this to assess their strengths and identify where they need help. I then guide students along to help them develop full understandings of the topics we study together. I worked in information technology for nine years, and I stay on top of technological advances for use with my students. I can help students learn English, Mandarin Chinese, reading, writing, elementary and middle school level math, ESL, history, social studies, and essay writing and editing. In my free time, I enjoy nature, listen to classical music, study law, and play badminton.

EvanI attended Northwestern University to earn my degree in journalism. I've been involved with reporting in journalism since I was in middle school student. As a professional, I worked for the Miami Herald and the St. Louis Post - Dispatch. I enjoy helping people become better writers. I've worked with family members, students, friends, and colleagues to help them improve essays, newspaper articles, works of fiction, and more. As a tutor, I've helped everyone from college students to fifth-graders. I've helped high school students with college applications as well. In addition to writing, I can help students with English grammar and syntax as well as spelling. When I work with students, I meet them where they are and help them build from there. It doesn't matter if a student struggling with reading or if they just want to polish their work. I will work alongside the student to explain the ways we can make the writing better until the piece is excellent. I can also help students prepare for the writing portions of standardized tests like the ACT.

DrewI attended St. Louis University for my bachelor's degree in English and philosophy. I then went on to the University Missouri - St. Louis for my master's degree in English composition. I worked for two years at UMSL as a tutor in the writing lab. As a younger student, I knew what teachers were looking for an essays and other writing, but it was a struggle for me to accomplish. With helping teachers and hard work, I was able to cultivate the skill. I want to share what I've learned with others as a tutor. I respect my students, and I also understand that every student is intelligent. When students are not confident though, it is hard to help them succeed. For this reason, I encourage students and reinforce them by telling them about what they already know. We then build off that to turn them into achievers. I've been successful in my approach, and I have many satisfied clients. I am looking forward to tutoring students in literature, reading, writing, general English, comparative literature, and of course writing. In my free time, I like to write myself. I also enjoy reading, video games, and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals.
