Phonics is more than the relationship between letters and sounds. Good phonics skills are at the root of word recognition, spelling and reading. Quite simply, they’re essential for long-term reading success! The good news is that our reading tutors can transform a struggling reader into a child who glows with confidence while reading.
ZacharyI love the French language and its culture. French opened the door to me for my interests in linguistics and literature. Loving the subject is essential to being a good tutor. Anytime students lose track of why learning is important, they become frustrated in coursework and in studying for tests. I present the material in ways that are easier to understand, and I customize my approach to the learning style and the needs of each student. I believe all of my students can succeed if I can get them to appreciate the topic. I can tutor students in French, English, history, elementary level math, literature, phonics, reading, ESL, essay editing, and more. I can also help students prepare for standardized tests. In my free time, I enjoy practicing photography, playing blues guitar, attending French cinema, cheering for the New Orleans Saints, and studying for the LSAT.

SimonaI have several years of experience as a teacher in New York City. Due to this, I understand that everybody learns differently and there many different styles of learning. When I work with students, I accommodate these different learning styles, and my experience in doing so only reinforces my passion for learning and teaching. I worked with students individually and in groups, and I've had the opportunity to work with students at all levels of socioeconomic status. I can tutor students in English, grammar, reading, phonics, and math. When I have free time, I enjoy trivia, reading, exercise, and the piano.

EugeneI attended Middlebury College, where I first discovered tutoring helping students in creative writing and political science. I've always loved writing, but I haven't always been good at it. To make myself a better writer, I practiced and try different approaches until I was able to figure it out. It is rewarding experience to have the topic click like that in my head. I want to help other students work through their learning difficulties to experience the same thing that I did with writing. I believe all students can learn any topic, and it just takes effort and guidance. I got better at writing by writing as much as I could. I can tutor students in elementary math, comparative literature, phonics, writing, reading, ESL, Korean, psychology, English grammar, social sciences, and test preparation for the ACT, SAT, and other standardized exams. My specialties as a tutor are SAT test preparation and writing. I'm looking forward to helping students learn using the step-by-step approach to help students develop their learning skills and self-sufficiency.
