StevenI received my undergraduate degree from California State University in history with a minor in creative writing. I attended the same school to earn my graduate degree in history. Upon graduation I enjoyed working with students as personal tutor and I recently received a substitute teaching permit for the state of California. I truly love working with students of all ages to help them gain a love and understanding for both history and the sciences. While history and science are my personal favorites, I tutor students in a wide variety of subjects, including algebra 1, general biology, elementary math, science, middle school math, general chemistry, biology, English, chemistry, history, physics, Latin American history, astronomy, world history, reading, writing, American history, English grammar and syntax, phonics, literature, European history, arithmetic, geography, physical science, public speaking, government and politics, world civilization, and social studies. I also tutor AP students in similar fields and enjoy working with those students who are preparing for the SAT. I've made a career of working with history and science in observatories, museums, and national parks. I believe that my ability to bring these subjects to life has been invaluable to the students I work with and I look forward to sharing learning adventures with more students in the future.

SAT Subject Tests
SaraI love to help students experience success. Whether it's improving a grade in a course, improving test scores, or gaining admission to the college of their choice, I'm driven to help students get there. I have seven years of experience as a tutor and teacher, and I take pride in my ability to help students build proficiency in history, English, and testing. I believe my friendly demeanor and professional approach are conducive to effective learning, and I'm comfortable working with students from diverse backgrounds considering my time living in both Africa and Europe. I can tutor students in reading, writing, essays, literature, English grammar, European history, creative writing, art history, world history, adult literacy, ESL, and others, and I can help students prepare for the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and similar standardized exams. I like to make my sessions fun and interesting to keep students engaged and productive. When I have some spare time, I like to volunteer, travel, read, and go on hikes.

JohnI enjoy working with students to develop mastery in a wide variety of subjects, including algebra 1 & 2, English, geometry, middle school math, trigonometry, French 1-4, AP French language and culture, AP United States history, physics, social studies, Latin, geography, public speaking, world religions, reading, comparative literature, writing, conversational French, phonics, English grammar and syntax, and European history. I also work with students to help them prepare for standardized exams such as the SAT, ACT, MAP, and PSAT. I enjoy working with students of all ages and ability levels and have successfully tutored gifted, special education, and ESL/ELL students. I believe one of the greatest evils in the world stems from ignorance and that students deserve as much assistance and guidance as society is able to provide in order to promote the acquisition of knowledge. The role of a tutor is not just to help a student gain a fuller understanding of subject area content, it is also to help students thrive in any learning situation in which they find themselves. To that end, I also take the time to work with students on their general study skills and organizational skills when those are holding them back from reaching their academic potential.
