Virginia is a state rich in history with numerous museums and historical sites. George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate is a prime example of this. The estate has been turned into a museum and education center, teaching visitors about the famous family who once lived there. You can visit the massive estate and take a guided tour through the home, or simply wander through the beautiful gardens. Thomas Jefferson's home has also been opened to the public as a historical and educational museum. The Jefferson Monticello offers year-round guided tours of the estate. You can also rent the Monticello for private events. Virginia is also home to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The center is comprised of two large hangars, each containing aviation and space artifacts, including the famous Space Shuttle Discovery. You can visit the center throughout the year for educational activities and occasional lectures.
Many Virginia residents closely follow the NCAA Division I teams from Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. The state is also home to the Potomac Nationals minor league baseball team.

ThomasI attended the University of Oklahoma, where I earned my BS in Neuroscience and a BA in Music Composition. I worked for a large company for a couple of years, and then made the decision to "come home" and take on private tutoring. This way, I was able to better utilize my creativity and intellect through my work. For the past eight years, I have been providing lessons in music and academic subjects on a one-on-one basis. I've mentored at a children's program for college bound students, presented exhibits about the brain through the Society of Neuroscience, and assisted as a coach for a high school mock trial team. When tutoring, I know how to motivate my students, which is critical to their success. First, I help them discover the context of the subject as it relates to their lives and their world, and specifically to particular interests they have. When a student knows why they are studying a subject, they are more motivated. I also take the time to get to know my students individually. I always find an overlap between the subject we're studying and their goals. I tutor in a wide variety of subjects, including various math, science, and English topics, and test prep for standardized tests like the PSAT, SAT, and GRE.

BarbaraWith the help of an academic scholarship, I was able to graduate cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan College with my bachelor's degree. During my time as a student, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to study Spanish abroad for a semester in Puebla, Mexico, while taking classes at the University of Madera. Since graduating from college, I started working as a social studies teacher for the Norfolk Public School System, where I've been teaching a number of subjects, including homeroom for seventh-grade students. A large portion of my experience has been centered around teaching both gifted students and those with learning disabilities. I believe that teaching has provided some of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Not only have I been able to help students gain the skills needed to succeed in the classroom and out in the professional world, I've also participated in a mentorship program for young girls, as well as created mock trials, debate teams, and assisted with STEM programs. I believe that education goes beyond test prep, and needs to help students prepare to become world citizens who have the skills necessary to succeed in life. When I'm not teaching, I like to spend my time outdoors with my friends and family.

AdamI received my undergraduate degree in anthropology and biological sciences from Radford University. During this time I began tutoring high school students and other college students. I also worked as a teaching assistant for several of my undergraduate classes. I tutor a wide variety of subjects, although my specialty is in mathematics and science. Some of the courses I tutor include anatomy, geography, science, biology, geology, social sciences, chemistry, IB biology, English, organic chemistry, IB chemistry, microbiology, physical chemistry, reading, writing, social and cultural anthropology, phonics, world religions, inorganic chemistry, physical science, American and European history, world religions, anatomy and physiology, and public speaking. I also tutor students to help them prepare for specific tests, including the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. I truly believe education is one of the most important things an individual can invest their time in and I try to convey this to my students by offering them an engaging and effective learning environment. I take the time to get to know my students as well as their learning style, academic strengths, and weakness in order to cultivate a creative and interactive presentation of their learning material that is designed specifically for them and their learning needs.
