RosieI knew I was going to be a teacher since my first day of kindergarten, when I came home and taught my sibling everything I learned in school that day. I come from a big family (I mean big), so I never had any shortage of people to play school with. I've been tutoring ever since I was in sixth grade, helping 2nd and 3rd graders with their math homework at the local Boys Club. I actually taught my own 8th grade math class at the ages of 12 and 13 so that the teacher could relax. A math teacher had an operation that limited her ability to speak when I was a senior in high school, so I taught her class at age 17. A mathematics professor asked me to help grade papers my second semester of college, a job I turned into becoming his aid and tutoring students in Algebra. I had the privilege of teaching three mathematics classes while working toward my masters, and many students told me that I helped them develop an appreciation for a subject they previously hated. I decided that I had to teach kids at the high school level to give them a chance to chase their dreams. I worked as a professional math teacher until I retired. I remain as passionate as ever about helping students succeed in mathematics!
