NakisaI'm attending UNC - Chapel Hill School of Medicine to earn my medical degree. I attended UNC - Chapel Hill for my undergraduate degree in French on the premed track. I also minored in business administration. I love to learn, and I love to help others, so tutoring is an obvious choice. I've had mentors throughout my academic career who have been very helpful to me, and I look forward to providing the same support to my students. I'm an active listener and strong communicator. Due to my background in athletics and as a musician, I've run into my own learning obstacles. I understand what students need to work through these barriers. I motivate my students, and I help them reduce the anxiety towards intimidating subjects. I also help students work on their organizational and time management skills, which is a big factor in success for students. I can tutor students in Spanish, French, biology, essay writing, comparative literature, math, and other topics, and I can help students prepare for standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. I enjoy being active in my free time. I enjoy boxing, play tennis, and figure skating. I'm also a pianist, and I enjoy listening to music as well. I love to read, and I also love good food.

LaurenI started tutoring as a high school student, and I realized how much I enjoyed it. Since then, I've tutored for various companies, through schools, as a volunteer, and writing and reading centers a colleges and elementary schools, and I've coordinated the tutoring program through a community college. My experiences as a tutor inspired me to seek a masters degree in education emphasizing reading instruction. I now teach reading, English, and other academic skills at a community college, and I've honed my abilities to figure out the learning style and needs of each student that I work with. I love helping students become confident in their abilities, and that motivates me to keep improving my skills as a teacher and tutor. I want my students to not only learn the topic at hand, but to develop a strong base of knowledge, learning skills, and strong communication skills so that they can be successful long-term. I figure out how to approach my students based on their learning style, strengths, needs, and goals. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, doing needlework, going on hikes, camping, and singing.

LarisaI earned my undergraduate degree from Simmons College in philosophy and psychology and my graduate degree from Tufts University in philosophy. I am currently pursuing my PhD at the University of North Carolina. I have worked as a writing assistant and tutor and helped students of all ages improve their writing skills across a wide range of subject areas. I currently tutor students in writing, philosophy, essay editing, poetry, literature, poetry writing, English grammar and syntax, business, psychology, intermediate accounting, contract law, constitutional law, microeconomics, IB philosophy HL and SL, statistics, IB theory of knowledge, social sciences, English, business ethics, clinical psychology, creative writing, ethics, law, philosophical ethics, and introduction to poetry. I also enjoy helping students who are preparing for the analytical writing and verbal portions of the GRE. I am passionate about education and strive to help my students improve their critical thinking skills and their ability to clearly express their ideas. I find that regardless of their major or the subject area with which they are struggling, improving these two skills can be transformative. When students are better able to analyze what a question or essay prompt is requesting and organize their own thoughts around the answer, they begin to excel.
