I earned my graduate degree from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College in education. I then went on to receive my certification in special education for students with behavioral and learning disabilities in grades four through eight. I have had the privilege of working with a large variety of children from diverse backgrounds which has helped build my teaching and tutoring skills as much as anything I learned in a classroom. I currently tutor several subjects, including algebra 1, middle school math, reading, essay writing, literature, phonics, pre-algebra, math, English, college and high school English, and comparative literature. I also work with students who are preparing for a standardized test or entrance examination such as the ACT, PSAT, SAT, ISEE, or SSAT. My teaching style is professional but compassionate. As a teacher, I understand just how important it is to develop a good working relationship with each student. Children are often intimidated by the learning process and this is especially true for those who have struggled with learning in the past. It is necessary for them to feel safe enough to ask questions if they are to thrive and reach their academic potential. I am a proponent of goal setting and positive reinforcement and have found these tactics to be quite effective with my students.Education

While an undergraduate, I attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where I completed my B.S. in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the same time that I completed my B.A. in Spanish Studies. Since I graduating, I have returned to the same university to work on an additional B.S in Neuroscience. After graduation, I plan to attend a graduate school and eventually complete a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience. I have enjoyed my time at the university, where I have been an active member and current captain of the Co-ed Cheerleading team. I have also worked in the Nature of Life program both as a peer mentor and as a teaching assistant. These experiences have led me to find my passion for working with students, which I find both fulfilling and rewarding. I believe it is my responsibility as a tutor to teach in such a way that imparts knowledge onto my student as well as a deep understanding of the material. I tutor a variety of subjects, but I mostly enjoy genetics, Spanish, molecular biology, and cellular biology. I truly enjoy sharing the knowledge I have gained in these areas with my students. In my free time, I like reading, hiking, weight lifting, and camping.Education

I graduated from the University of Minnesota summa cum laude, where I received a bachelor's degree in global studies and public and nonprofit management. During my time as an undergraduate student, I also minored in art and spent a lot of my free time immersing myself in some of the world's most influential cultural movements throughout history. Additionally, I also spent six months in a study abroad program in Seville, Spain, where I learned more about Spanish language and culture. Throughout my career as a student, I developed a passion for education and helping people, which is why I worked as a volunteer for two different legal clinics in my community. Moreover, I've been working as a tutor ever since I was in high school, which has allowed me to work with students in a one-on-one setting and so that I can help them improve their study habits and reach all of their educational goals. I believe that every student has what it takes to succeed in the classroom, but they first need to learn in a way that they can relate to. For this reason, I customize my material so that it's designed for the individual that I'm teaching so that I'm able to adopt a teaching strategy that works best for the pupil.Education
