MonaLisaI am originally from Hong Kong and a native speaker of Cantonese. I love to share my native language and culture with others, which is why Cantonese is one of the subjects that I tutor. I believe that when it comes to learning another language that practice makes perfect. I also feel that to be successful in Cantonese, a student needs to listen and watch because there are many complexities to the language, such as tones, sounds, and phrases. These things can only be picked up by students through a careful ear and close observation. I earned my bachelor of arts in rhetorical communication at the University of Pittsburgh and enjoy tutoring in English, writing, public speaking, and theatre. I plan to continue my education with a master's degree in health administration. I currently work in the health industry as a patient advocate at a children's hospital. I am also willing to provide advice and my personal insight to working in the health industry. When I am not working or teaching, I find great enjoyment in volunteering. I volunteer as a disaster service volunteer with the Red Cross and I am a youth ministries leader with my church. I also enjoy reading superhero comics and playing the piano.

JasonI went to Duquesne University for my bachelor's degree in instructional technology and my graduate degree in education. I'm currently teaching at a technical college. I have also taught math at the high school and middle school levels, covering everything from beginning math subjects through AP calculus, and I also have taught physics. As a tutor, I'm adept at personalizing my teaching approach to match the learning style and abilities of each student. One strategy I use consistently is relating concepts that we study to interests students have, which helps students better understand these concepts. I'm very laid-back and patient, and I'm looking forward to helping students achieve success. In my free time, I enjoy reading, studying astronomy, listening to music, and sudoku.

AmandaI earned my undergraduate degree at Chatham University in childhood education. I then went on to become certified in the state of Pennsylvania to teach students in Pre K through fourth grade. As a student teacher I had the opportunity to work with students at a nearby charter school. I have traveled around the world as a volunteer and I believe the experience this provided was invaluable for my personal growth and my abilities as a teacher. I love working with a diverse student population and I know how important it is for students to feel seen, heard, and understood as the unique individuals they are. I am fluent in Spanish and I enjoy working with students who are working on their mastery of English or Spanish. I currently tutor several courses, including elementary math, Spanish 1-4, languages, phonics, reading writing, English, high school and college level English, and conversational Spanish. I also work with students who are preparing for a standardized exam such as the ISEE or SSAT. When working with students I utilize Gardner's Multiple Intelligences and I rely on learning assessments and the use of manipulatives to inform the lesson plans I create. It is my goal to not only help my students reach their immediate academic goals but to also help them dream bigger and become socially responsible adults.
