StephanieI earned my bachelor of science degree in Microbiology at the University of California in Davis. I then went on to obtain my master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I have had experience as a mentor to women in college who needed help studying various subjects. My job was to assist students by providing them with study skills such as time management and organization, as well as teaching them test-taking strategies that, along with knowledge of the content, led to higher scores on exams. I believe that the greatest benefit of tutoring is the one-on-one communication between me and my student. I don't just provide my students with answers. I expect them to remain engaged and to learn the information, with my guidance. To that end, I provide a great deal of positive reinforcement, which tends to motivate my students to want to learn. This is essential, because there is no benefit to my doing the work for them. Students gain confidence from succeeding, so the process of tutoring feeds on each small success to lead students to achieve their academic goals. I tutor many science and math subjects, as well as standardized test prep, such as the ACT.

LeighI'm currently seeking a doctoral degree in comparative literature from the University of Michigan. I've plenty of tutoring and teaching experience, including teaching first year writing and advanced French as a graduate student. I understand the challenges new college students face in adapting to college and college life, and I can help them ease the transition. I've had the opportunity to study in France and other French-speaking countries, and I've taught English and tutored students in France as well. I went to Cornell University for my bachelor's degree in near Eastern studies, with a French minor. I'm looking forward to tutoring ESL, French, writing, and reading, along with helping students prepare for the ACT, SAT, and other exams. In my free time, I like to do yoga and bake. I also enjoy swimming, reading, and spending time with my cat.

DesireeI'm pursuing my bachelor's degree in English linguistics, and I'm looking forward to continue my education in English linguistics and TESOL as a graduate student. I enjoy working with students to help them improve their communication skills in the written and spoken forms. I have concentrated on studying English teaching, grammar, and English language learning in school. I've also studied Japanese extensively, so I would also be comfortable assisting students in learning the Japanese language as well as and helping Japanese speaking students improve their English skills. In my free time, I enjoy video games, activism, veganism, animal rights, attending concerts, listen to music, going to festivals and fairs, and reading.
