I had great teachers who helped me truly understand topics instead of provided me with rote memorization. This help me develop learning skills that I was able to use to become successful throughout my academic career. Thanks to those instructors and mentors, I was able to earn a master's degree in history and finish my bachelor's degree in three and half years, while maintaining my presence on the Dean's list. I would like to provide this kind of support for my students to help them be successful in their academic and professional careers as well. I can assist students in history and writing primarily, I'm comfortable with science and math subjects as well. I've also had the opportunity to present research at conferences, lead history and literature study groups at the graduate level, and successfully defend my masters thesis. I'm adept at presenting explanations in ways that are easier for students to understand. I also have a learning disability, and I have direct experience in working through my own struggles to figure out how I could learn a subject. I can help students develop these kinds of coping mechanisms and workarounds to allow them to learn like everyone else. In my free time, I like to read, paint, hike, travel, and scuba dive.Education

I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Russian language and literacy along with a minor in linguistics and my graduate degree from Wayne State University in speech and language pathology. I have worked with students in grades K-12 as a speech therapist for more than three years and I am passionate about helping students of all ages develop their literacy skills. I have worked with students both in the classroom and in individual sessions. I currently tutor reading, writing, essay editing, phonics, English, vocabulary, English grammar and syntax, Russian, and languages. I also help students who are preparing for the SAT and GRE. It is important for a tutor to take the time to get to know their student and what makes them comfortable if a speech therapy session is going to be successful. The same is true for the tutoring process when a student is struggling with a subject area. I know how valuable it is to be able to weave a student's interests into a session and how well it can motivate them to do their very best. It also makes the lessons more personally engaging for the student and helps to accelerate the learning process.Education

I attended Kalamazoo College for my bachelor's degree in international studies and French language and literature. For my first major, my specialization was Western Europe. For my second major I also earned a philosophy minor. In addition, I graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. While I've studied the humanities primarily, I also enjoy math, and I tutored math throughout my college career. After I graduated, I taught at the high school level in France. I'm now preparing for graduate school and tutoring. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, eating gourmet cuisine, running, biking, and traveling.Education
