JoeI studied biology and health science as an undergraduate, and I was on track to go to pharmacy school. I was accepted into a program, but I realized my passion for music needed to be fulfilled. Instead of going to pharmacy school, I moved to Nashville. I'm currently playing with my band, writing music, and tutoring students in music theory. I've dedicated my life to this pursuit, and I enjoy sharing what I know about music with others. I also have a strong science background, and I can tutor students in biology, biochemistry, microbiology and physiology, and others. When I have free time, I enjoy running.

FloydI have five years of experience as a substitute teacher, and I'm licensed to teach at the elementary school level. As a sub, I've taught in many K - 12 classrooms, and I always enjoy my work. As a tutor, my specialty is elementary school level math, but I also enjoy all elementary school subjects. I am able to connect with students, and I break down concepts and problems so that they are attainable for my students. Once a student demonstrates that they have a good understanding, I then show them other techniques and tips to help them find answers more quickly. I'm familiar with Common Core and can teach students to demonstrate their work based on those expectations, but I'm also happy to show students how to find answers in the traditional way. When I have free time, I enjoy exercising and woodworking.

CassidyI teach reading and writing at the sixth grade level for a charter school. My students are immigrants, and I speak a variety of different languages. As someone who enjoys learning languages, this is a great opportunity to work with students of different backgrounds and cultures. I've also had the opportunity to be a substitute teacher of all subjects and grades, and I've tutored in both Italy and Peru. I'm adept at grammar, but I think there's a lot more to learning a language than rote memorization and rules. I like to engage students in hands-on activities, and I encourage immersion through watching films, TV shows, listen to music, and other activities. I think it's really important to learn about culture as well when you learn the language. I can tutor students in a number of different subjects, but my favorites are Italian, Spanish, ESL, and reading. Other topics include general elementary school topics, general middle school topics, math, history, expository writing, AP exams, SAT subject tests, and other standardized test preparation. I went to the College of William and Mary to earn my bachelor's degree in Hispanic studies. I also minored in Italian studies. As a college student, I was able to serve on the sailing team, dance and hip-hop group, and volunteer within the office of admissions. During my free time, I enjoy writing, reading, exercising, dancing, and spending time with my dog.
