JohnI earned my undergraduate degree in the biological basis of behavior from the University of Pennsylvania. I then went on to earn two graduate degrees. The first was in finance from Rutgers University and the second was in business education from Robert Morris University. It would be an understatement to say I love learning! I also love to teach and it is easy to see that both learning and education, in general, have always been a focal point in my life. After a career in business, it was this love of learning that sent me back to school yet again to earn my teaching certification. I love teaching so much that I also tutor students outside of school. Some of the courses I tutor students in are geometry, middle school math, statistics, microeconomics, economics, accounting, computer science, pre-algebra, macroeconomics, business, technology and computer science, and a variety of other math and technology courses. I also enjoy helping students improve their broader study and organizational skills. My teaching style is centered upon a solid foundation of understanding and trust. I take the time to get to know my students so that I fully understand their academic needs. This allows me to customize their learning experience so they receive the most benefit out of our time together.

Study Skills and Organization
HannahI attended Penn State where I earned my bachelor's in English, with a minor in Philosophy. I followed this with a year at Pitt to earn my teaching certificate in Communications and English. I also obtained certification to teach high school social studies. Now, I'm studying for my MA in English at Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English. The first time I had the opportunity to teach and tutor was at the Undergrad Writing Center while I went to Penn. I assisted students with their writing throughout a number of subjects. I met with many different kinds of students, including those for whom English was a second language, honors students, and sometimes I got to work with graduate students. I have a lot of experience writing in campus publications, local newspapers, and part of a textbook. I achieve great satisfaction tutoring students in the writing process. I also love tutoring in reading, and have had much success helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the PSSA and SAT. Literacy is one of my strongest values, and I take every opportunity to help promote it, one student at a time. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking and spending time in nature, and caring for my pet cat.

DongI love to learn, and I enjoy sharing what I know with others. Because of this, teaching seemed like a natural career path. As a tutor, I want to exercise my passions for learning and teaching to help students achieve success, and I'll gain more experience. I'm always learning, and tutoring helps me learn more as well. I studied English literature in college, and I speak Mandarin Chinese natively, so I'm adept at teaching students English, ESL, and Mandarin Chinese. Having learned these skills myself, I know the sticking points, and I can help students work through those. If we work together as a team, your performance will improve. When I have free time, I like to travel, run, and read.
