MarjorieI earned my bachelor's degree in Biology, with a minor in Psychology, from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. I have experience, having taken standardized test such as the SAT, the ACT, and the MCAT. I have experience applying to a wide variety of schools, both regular colleges and medical schools. This means I have a good understanding of the challenges faced by students who are preparing for these kinds of tests and the anxiety they feel about the college admissions process. But I know if I could make it through, anybody can, and I enjoy helping students go through the preparation of applications for college, which includes learning how to master the standardized tests involved. I also have experience helping students write successful college entry essays, and also working with them on the best strategies for studying once they get to college. I am able to tutor students in a number of science and math classes, but also subjects like critical reading, writing and technical writing, and other skills that affect all areas of their academic careers. I focus on digging into the material they are learning, helping them learn to identify and deal with the areas that need improvement.

JosephI am an experienced tutor who specializes in language, both English and Japanese. My goal is for my students to learn to develop critical thinking skills and to gain a deeper understanding of each subject they wish to learn. I am available to help students prepare for their classes with summer tutoring, study skills, and study skills and organization tutoring. For students preparing for the ACT or SAT, I can assist with test prep, ACT Reading, ACT English, SAT Writing and Language, ACT Writing, and SAT Reading. For non-native English speakers, please contact me for assistance with English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Language Learners (ELL). AdI come from a family that has been in the newspaper publishing business for five generations, so it was no surprise when I chose to study Journalism and English when I went off to college at the University of Nebraska. I used my education to obtain work as a reporter at a variety of papers across the United States. I turned to writing fiction when my first child was born, so that I could stay in one place and raise her in person. I have now been published internationally through writing novels for Random House, and I also have experience teaching specific writing strategies in schools, and tutoring individuals. I like to keep learning fun and fresh, and my students seem to appreciate that. I have tutored many students over the years, and that child I mentioned? She earned perfect SAT scores in verbal and writing, along with a 100 percent on her IB extended essay. I have instilled in her, and all my students throughout the years, that writing is the most important skill academically and beyond, because it is required in all areas of life. A scientist needs to be able to write to publish papers. An employee needs to be able to write a comprehensible email to their boss. And I help students build good writing skills.
